We set out on a thorough redesign, not only refining the key components of our original home experience but also brainstorming and seamlessly integrating brand-new discovery features. The key challenge was to provide users with enough content to explore without overwhelming them. These updates are the first iteration towards a unified discovery CX and are the foundation for upcoming Explore features.
Music at the forefront
With our app's focus on audio content, we overhauled the Show tuner. This redesigned card feature allows users to listen to short snippets of live shows as they browse. We organized all show contents into a container to create a spatial relationship. Additionally, we introduced card peeks on both sides of the tuner to promote horizontal swiping and streamline content exploration.
Broadening Search and Discovery
We improved exploration and discoverability by introducing the option to listen to past shows, significantly enhancing users' opportunities to find content aligned with their interests. Expanding beyond live shows, we recognized the necessity for additional discovery methods. As a result, we implemented personalized carousels on the homepage, along with browsing by categories and search functionalities.
Discovery 2.0 achieved impressive results, doubling engagement and increasing Monthly Active Users (MAUs) by 35%. Incorporating engaging animations and thoughtful design choices, along with familiar visual patterns, significantly enhanced user interaction. Despite hoping for bolder design decisions, I'm proud of the redesign's substantial impact on all key performance indicators (KPIs). Personally, the project taught me valuable lessons in prioritization, maintaining high standards across our organization. The project's success was driven by collaborative efforts, with the whole company rallying behind a bold vision set by Design.
